How the Mixing Charts were Made

Schmincke Vermilion (PR255)

The first "row" is simply a wash giving you an idea about how light you can make the color.

Each column of color represents a gradation from the "mother" color, in this case Schmincke's Cadmium Red Orange to the color at the bottom of the column. So for each column I started with a nice juicy puddle of pure color and added a little of the mixing color. In the case of the first column, this was Winsor-Newton's Cobalt Green. In the next row you add a bit more. Etc. Continue on down the row adding more and more of the mixing color. Repeat for each column using a different mixing color.

For the mixing with Cadmium Red Orange I used the following colors.

  1. Winsor-Newton Cobalt Green (PG50)
  2. Schmincke Cobalt Turquoise (PG50)
  3. Winsor-Newton Cobalt Turquoise (PB36)
  4. Winsor-Newton Cerulean Blue (PB35)
  5. Schmincke Helio Turquoise (PB16)
  6. Schmincke Phthalo Blue (PB15:1)
  7. Holbein Ultramarine Deep (PB29)
  8. Winsor-Newton Indanthrene Blue (PB60)
  9. Schmincke Ultramarine Violet (PV15)
  10. Schmincke Sepia Brown (PB15:1+PBk9+2xPBr7)
  11. Sennelier Lamp Black (PBk9+PY42)
  12. Schmincke Neutral Gray (PR251+PB60+PG7)
